Tour: Urban living, outdoors and nearby nature: Kalasatama – Mustikkamaa - Kulosaari

Suitability: The tour is suitable for anyone with basic fitness and doesn’t require climbing or carrying any tools. A walking tour, no car or use of public transport required.

Starting point: Mega-Event area.

13 caches, total distance by foot approx. 7 km, duration approx. 2 hours. A circle tour, starting and ending at the Mega-Event area. The tour takes you to the new neighbourhood of Sompasaari to Mustikkamaa island. From Mustikkamaa the route continues via Kulosaari back to Kalasatama, Sörnäinen and eventually the Mega-Event area. All in all, five different cache types are included and even a couple of challenge caches. In addition, Adventure Lab® REDI Bryga can be visited on the roof garden of REDI shopping center and Intro to areal art at Kalasatama area.

Tour: Urban city nature and favourite caches: Viikinranta – Lammassaari - Kuusiluoto

Suitability: The tour is suitable for anyone with basic fitness. Fishing rod required for one cache. The parking lot at Viikinranta can be accessed by car, bike, public transport or even by foot if you enjoy longer walks. From the parking lot onwards, by foot only. From Kalasatama, take bus 55 from platform 5 towards Koskela. Step out at Tekniikan museo.

Starting point; Parking lot N60° 12.955 E024° 59.238

15 caches, distance from the parking lot to Kuusiluoto approx. 2.5 km, back via Säynäslahti approx. 3.5 km more. Depending on the route, the total distance is 6-7 km. Duration approx. 2 hours. The tour is all about beautiful urban nature in the middle of the city, with duckboards and all. In addition to beautiful nature, the tour includes big time favourite caches, a couple of oldies and even one urban test of courage on the Matinkaari bridge. The route can be shortened by leaving out either the trip to Kuusiluoto or the caches at Säynäslahti.

Tour: Urban island caching: Vartiosaari

Suitability: Varying terrain with hills on the island, good shoes are recommended. Travel by car or with public transport to the shore in Laajasalo, from where affordable and easy connection with ferry to Vartiosaari island. When on the island, walking via paths and forest routes. When using public transportation, take the metro from Kalasatama (towards Vuosaari or Mellunmäki) to Herttoniemi, from where e.g. buses 84, 85, 86, 88 and 89 take you to the vicinity of the ferry (shore at east end of Reposalmentie). From the shore, Aurinkolautta ferry (https://www.aurinkolautta.fi/) travels non-stop. Check the summer 2023 timetable from the website!

15 caches, the total distance depends on the chosen route, in any case several kilometers of walking and mixed terrain. Possibility to log some T5 island caches near the city center. A couple of puzzle caches require some work in advance, but there are also Adventure Lab® caches and related bonus caches which can be solved on the island. There is even a climbing cache (ladders useful!) and an earth cache on the island.

As many different cache types for Mega-Event day aka Icon run

You might be familiar with the concept of geocaching icon run. The Icon run is when geocachers try to get as many different cache types as they can in one day. Usually Mega-Event dates are popular for this kind of activity. This time it is possible to get 13 different cache types though it requires planning and driving around (other event types cannot be held near Mega-Event). This list consists of easy caches that are close to Mega-Event or are on route to the other caches in the list. Be aware that the correct logging of the Webcam cache requires ladders of a fishing rod.

Geocache list: Helsinki Metro

The Helsinki metro is easy to use; one straight line from east to west. The metro is an easy and fast way to move from cache to cache in the city. Below, as an example, caches at each metro station from Mega event station (Kalasatama) to west all the way to the end station (Kivenlahti). Note, that the AB ticket is valid until Matinkylä, after which the ABC ticket is required.
